How to send a media enquiry
Use the enquiry form on our contact page and choose the option that best matches your request. Outlet, format and deadline let us connect you with the right person and confirm what is possible.
Please include your publication or platform name, the story angle, the names of any creators or chapters you want to cover, your deadline and whether you need an interview, photographs or event access. If you are working to a tight turnaround, say so clearly. That helps us prioritise the right response and avoid back and forth.
- Tell us what the story is about
- Share your deadline and preferred contact window
- List any chapter, city or creator you want to feature
- Note whether you need written comment, interview access or event attendance
What we can help with
Our team supports coverage that focuses on creators, community work, showcases and cross border collaboration. We can help journalists and producers find the right angle, confirm programme details and arrange access where appropriate. If your piece is about African makers building practical opportunities, we can point you to the right people and events.
Common requests include interviews with the MD, programme leads and community managers, background on mentorship circles, access to showcase events, creator profile input and support with story fact checking. We also assist with coverage around Braamfontein and our chapters in Rosebank, Pretoria, Durban, Cape Town, Newtown, Soweto and Nairobi.
- Interviews with leadership and programme staff
- Creator stories and member spotlights
- Showcase attendance and event notes
- Background on community partnerships and online sessions
Who handles different requests
Media enquiries are reviewed by the team and directed to the person best placed to help. For programme or mentorship stories, our Programme Lead and Mentorship Coordinator may be involved. For showcase coverage, the Showcase Producer usually manages access and timing. If your request is about online activity or community channels, the Digital Community Manager will help with the practical details.
When a story spans partnerships, events and operations, we may loop in more than one team member so you get accurate information the first time. That saves time for everyone and keeps the process clear, especially when a publication is working across several cities or chapter groups at once.
- Programme and mentorship questions
- Showcase access and event logistics
- Online community and collaboration requests
- Partnership or chapter based coverage
Before you request access
Some events are open to media and some are limited to creators, mentors or invited guests. If you want to attend a meetup or showcase, ask early so we can confirm the format, venue rules and any photography conditions. In Braamfontein and other busy city areas, venue access can depend on security, parking arrangements and venue capacity, so it helps to plan ahead.
For creator stories, please let us know if you need stills, short quotes or a longer interview. If the story involves product images or workspace photographs, give us a sense of the style you are after. Clear briefs make it easier to line up the right creator and avoid delays at the last minute.
- Ask for access before announcing attendance
- Share your photography or video needs early
- Confirm if you need permission for recording
- Check whether the event is public or invite-only
What makes a strong story angle
The strongest coverage usually shows the practical side of what creators are building. That could be a mentorship journey, a collaboration between cities, a product getting market ready, or a showcase that opens new audiences. We are also happy to help with stories about pricing support, portfolio feedback and how African creators work across borders, not just within one town or one industry.
If you are still shaping the angle, tell us what kind of angle you need and we can suggest a route. A well focused question usually gets a better response than a broad request. If you are after one headline, one quote and one photo, say that. If you need a feature with several voices, say that too, it makes the process easier.
- Focus on people, process and outcomes
- Ask for one clear central theme
- Tell us whether you need short or long form copy
- Share any regional focus, such as South Africa or pan-African collaboration
After you send the request
Once your form is received, the team reviews it and responds with the next step. If we can assist, we will confirm the best contact, the timing, and any conditions around access or content use. If a request needs more detail, we will ask for it up front so the process stays straightforward.
For urgent coverage, please make that clear in the message body and include a direct deadline. For features that need background notes or chapter references, allow a little more time. Good media work depends on accurate details and proper coordination, especially when events, people and places are spread across several cities.
We welcome enquiries from local newsrooms, magazines, podcasts, radio producers and digital publications. If your story is about creators doing real work and building connections across the continent, we would like to hear from you.
