Frequently Asked Questions

Need help with membership, events, city chapters or online sessions? Clear answers make it easier to choose membership, plan for events and join sessions with confidence. Members join from Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban, Pretoria and further afield, with programmes shaped around both city chapters and online participation.

How membership works for makers, designers and builders

PioCreat Africa is open to African creators who want practical connection, useful feedback and more visibility for their work. Members include product designers, digital creators, workshop teams and independent makers from across South Africa and other countries on the continent. There is no need to wait for a big launch or polished studio setup. If you are making things and looking for real collaboration, you can apply through the enquiry form on our contact page.

Once we receive your enquiry, our team checks what kind of support fits best. Some people want a chapter to plug into, others need mentor matching, portfolio feedback or help preparing for a showcase. We look at your goals, where you are based and how you want to participate. The aim is to connect you to the right programme without wasting time.

  • Submit your enquiry with your name, city and area of work.
  • Tell us if you want event access, mentorship, collaboration support or profile writing.
  • Wait for a follow-up with the best next step for your situation.

What happens at meetups, showcases and mentorship circles

Our programmes are built for useful contact, not just attendance. Meetups bring creators together for introductions, idea sharing and partner finding. Showcases give makers a place to present work to new audiences, while mentorship circles are smaller and more focused. These sessions often cover pricing, market readiness, product styling and how to present your work clearly when someone asks what you do.

We run events in Braamfontein, Johannesburg and through chapters in Rosebank, Pretoria, Durban, Cape Town, Newtown, Soweto and Nairobi. Some sessions are in person and some are online, which helps when people are travelling, working late or dealing with load-shedding. If you are attending a showcase, come ready with a short introduction, a clear description of your work and any samples or images you want to share. That bit makes a diffrence.

  • Meetups: networking, collaboration calls and introductions.
  • Showcases: curated public presentation of selected work.
  • Mentorship circles: guided discussion with practical advice and peer input.

How to choose the right city chapter

Choose the chapter that best matches where you live or work most often. If you are in central Johannesburg, Braamfontein or Newtown may be the easiest fit. If you are closer to the northern suburbs, Rosebank can make sense. Pretoria, Durban, Cape Town, Soweto and Nairobi chapters support local access and help keep participation practical for creators who prefer in-person connection.

If you travel between cities, you can still take part. Many members join across more than one programme when their schedule allows it. Online sessions also help people stay involved when municipal venue availability, weather or transport becomes a problem. The key is to choose the chapter that gives you the best access without adding too much strain to your week.

  • Pick the nearest chapter first if you want regular in-person access.
  • Use online sessions if you live outside the main metro or travel often.
  • Ask for chapter guidance if your work is active in more than one city.

Online participation when you cannot attend in person

If you are not able to join in person, online sessions let you stay involved in mentorship, collaboration calls and selected community meetings. This is useful for members based outside Johannesburg, or for those dealing with shift work, childcare or transport delays. We keep the format practical so people can join from home, a shared workspace or anywhere with a reliable connection.

Before an online session, make sure your name is correct on your booking and that you have the right link and timing. Have your questions ready so you can use the time well. Where possible, log in a few minutes early, test your sound and keep any supporting files nearby. If loadshedding is affecting you, charge devices ahead of time and join from a place with backup power if you can.

  • Use a stable connection and join early.
  • Keep your portfolio, images or notes close by.
  • Let us know if you need a follow-up after the session.

What support you can ask for before a showcase or pitch

We help creators prepare in a few specific ways before they step into a public session or partner conversation. That can include creator photography, product styling, creator profile writing, portfolio feedback, pricing support and market readiness guidance. The point is to make your work easier to understand and easier to place with the right audience.

If you are not sure what you need, start with a short enquiry and explain what you are making, who it is for and where you want to show it. Our team will guide you on the most suitable support. This works well for people launching new products, preparing for a first market, or trying to move from hobby level into paid work. A little structure goes a long way, especially when you are trying to present to buyers, curators or potential collaborators.

  • Send a short summary of your work and your goal.
  • Choose one or two support areas to focus on first.
  • Ask for guidance if you are unsure about pricing or presentation.

If you need help joining, start here

Begin with the contact form and tell us which PioCreat Africa chapter or support you want. Tell us your name, location, the chapter you are interested in and what kind of support you want. If you are asking about membership, note whether you want events, mentorship, collaboration support or help presenting your work. Clear detail helps us match you with the right chapter, event or support option.

After that, keep an eye out for a reply with the next step. Some people are invited to a chapter session, some are matched into a mentorship circle and others are directed to an online programme. If you are in Braamfontein, Johannesburg or nearby areas, you may be guided to the most immediate local option. If you are elsewhere, we will help you join in a way that suits your situation.

We keep the process simple because creators have enough to manage already. One enquiry is usually enough to get things moving.
